Accurate Interpreting

Being fluent in three languages (English, Catalan, and Spanish), I’ve been interpreting for friends and family for many years. I love it! That’s why I took on a bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting. Although I feel the studies focused more on translating than interpreting, it allowed me to be aware of my abilities as an interpreter to pursue them professionally.

I believe that interpreting is like any sport: practice makes perfect. I recommend being as literal as possible. It’s crucial not to add, omit or edit content.

There are two modes of interpreting: consecutive and simultaneous.

In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter waits for the speaker to finish taking, and then translates the speaker’s words. The speech is divided into segments. I offer this service in the following language combinations:

► English ↔ Spanish
► English ↔ Catalan
► Spanish ↔ Catalan

In simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter translates the words as quickly as possible while the speaker talks. The speech is continuous. At present, I don’t offer this modality as a professional service.

Interpreting services can be offered on-site, or remotely (over-the-phone, or via video).

There are several types of interpreting. The most common are:

► Conference
► Legal
► Medical
► Sign-language
► Travel
► Voice-over

Currently, I’m offering legal, medical and travel interpreting services:

Judicial, legal, or court interpreting takes place in courts of justice, administrative tribunals, and wherever a legal action is taking place. My experience has taken place mostly in law firms for arbitrations and depositions.

✓  Medical interpreting takes place at healthcare centers, clinics, hospitals, and wherever a medical procedure is taking place. My experience comprises acting as the intermediary between the patient and the healthcare provider at medical practices.

✓ As a travel interpreter, my tasks may include working as an assistant and helping clients to navigate while they’re on business trips abroad. I’m the cultural and linguistic liaison between the United States and the following countries: Spain, Andorra, and Catalonia.

Other experience includes over-the-phone interpreting for several companies, such as:

► Deutsche Bank
► Endesa
► LG Electronics
► Banco Sabadell
► Google

Nowadays, I’m only offering on-site interpreting services in Chicago and the North Shore area of Illinois.
